Carm Yocum

MOUNT MORRIS – Carm Yocum, 86, longtime Mount Morris resident, died Saturday, July 27, 2013, at SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford.

She was born April 12, 1927, in Mendota, the daughter of Leo and Hannah (Flaherty) Coss. Carm was a graduate of Mendota High School, and attended Sacred Heart Academy. She was married to Russell W. Yocum on July 30, 1949, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mendota. He preceded her in death. She was employed as a secretary at Disciples United Methodist Church in Mount Morris for several years. She volunteered extensively for Lifeline Food Pantry and served on its board of directors. She was a baking judge for the Ogle County and 4-H fairs. Carm was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Oregon and the Catholic Daughters of America.

She is survived by her sons, David Yocum of Mount Morris, Greg (Trish) Yocum of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Jim Yocum of Denver; daughters, Maureen Slater of Colorado Springs, Colo., Yvonne Schmidt of Oregon, and Rose Yocum of St. Louis; grandchildren, Greg, Joe, Michelle, Michael, Danny, Patrick, Rachel, Heidi, and Hannah; and great-grandchildren, Dravin, Caleb, Jacob, Brianne, Justin, and Dylan.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael; and sister, Lu.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with the rosary recited at 8 p.m., Thursday at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Oregon. Christian Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Oregon with the Rev. Joseph Naill, celebrant, officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Oregon.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Lifeline Food Pantry, both in Oregon.
