University rises in Forbes’ rankings

CHAMPAIGN (AP) – The University of Illinois jumped 33 spots in Forbes Magazine’s ranking of “America’s Top Colleges.”

That puts Illinois at No. 53 on this year’s list. On the list of public colleges, it’s No. 10, ahead of Wisconsin, Texas, Penn State and Indiana.

The rankings are based on a student’s return on investment, the magazine said. The 12 metrics include post-graduate job success and salary as well as debt.

It’s nice to be recognized in such rankings, but the university has its own criteria for measuring its performance, Illinois spokeswoman Robin Kaler said, adding that prospective students should visit the campus and decide for themselves.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
