Scott Stage fundraiser is Aug. 17

The first Scott Stage Memorial fundraising golf tournament will be held Aug. 17 at Rock River Golf and Pool.

Registration is $65 per player for the best-ball event, throughout which raffles will be held at the clubhouse. All the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross.

Jerry Stage organized the event in honor of his brother, Scott, who passed away in January 2012. Call Jerry if you’d like to make donations, or for more information on the event, at 815-441-0655 or 815-625-2208.


Rose fourth in popularity vote

Miami Heat forward LeBron James is once again the most popular NBA player, according to an ESPN fan poll.

The Bulls’ Derrick Rose placed fourth in the poll. Nearly 13 percent (12.9) of NBA fans said James was their favorite player this season, while 12.5 percent said Lakers star Kobe Bryant was their favorite.

Pacers acquire Scola from Suns

The Indiana Pacers traded center Miles Plumlee, forward Gerald Green and a lottery-protected 2014 first-round pick to the Phoenix Suns for power forward Luis Scola on Saturday.

The 6-foot-9, 245-pound Scola, 33, averaged 12.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last season for the Suns and has 2 years and $9 million left on his contract.


Eagles’ Maclin could be out for season

Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin tore the ACL in his right knee during practice and could miss the season.

Maclin went down at the end of a non-contact Saturday drill and was carted off the field.

Maclin led the team with 69 catches for 857 yards and seven touchdowns last season, and the former first-round pick is in the final year of his rookie contract.

McNabb says he’ll retire as an Eagle

Donovan McNabb, a six-time Pro Bowl quarterback, has announced that he will officially retire from the NFL as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.

McNabb, 36, who led the Eagles to 100 victories, five NFC title games but only one losing Super Bowl appearance, played 11 of his 13 seasons for Philadelphia. He is the Eagles’ leader in several passing categories, including touchdowns (216), completions (2,801) and yards (32,873).


Busch dominates Nationwide event

Kyle Busch fought off Brian Scott and Joey Logano after a late restart to win the NASCAR Nationwide Series race Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

It was Busch’s eighth Nationwide Series victory this season and his first at Indianapolis. He dominated most of Saturday’s race, leading 92 of its 100 laps, but Busch nearly saw victory slip away after the final restart with six laps remaining.
