DIXON – Amy Viering is leaving her position at Sauk Valley Community College.

Viering, the dean of community outreach, is resigning effective Wednesday, according to information posted online for the Sauk Board of Trustees meeting Monday.

She also is executive director of the Sauk Foundation.

The board will vote to accept her resignation when it meets Monday night.

Viering has accepted a position with Wells Fargo Bank, according to the board meeting information.

Neither she nor a representative of the college returned phone calls Friday, as the college is closed that day during the summer.

Viering is well known around the Sauk Valley. She previously served in municipal government in Sterling. She was elected alderwoman in 2003. In 2007, she was elected as the city’s first female mayor.

She was appointed alderwoman at large in 2011; her term expired in April.
