Prisoner's ill treatment not so bad

Published: Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

In response to inmate Tyberius Mays’ (at the correctional facility in Dixon) letter on July 25 titled “Punishment at prison unequal,” suck it up, buttercup. Just whose rights did you violate that put you into the situation you are now in?

Be happy that you live in the United States and that you have the opportunity to cry about your ill treatment through the newspaper.

There is an Iranian-American pastor, Saeed Abedini, over in Evin Prison in Iran. He’s in there simply because he is a Christian and will not deny his beliefs. Does he have any rights? No. Does he get three meals a day like you do? No. Does he get medical care like you do? No. He reportedly is beaten every day; he is starved; he is denied any medical treatment for his injuries.

Look it up on the computer. I’m quite sure that you have that luxury at the Dixon Correctional Facility. Perhaps you should send your complaints about your ill treatment to the wife and kids of this pastor. Perhaps you don’t have it that bad, after all.
