Helen M. Mayfield

DIXON – Helen Margaret Mayfield, 94, of Dixon, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Avonlea Cottage in Sterling. She was a beautician for several years before retiring.

Helen was born Jan. 22, 1919, in Kellerville, the daughter of Rollie and Ada (Mayfield) Kerley. She married Leland W. Mayfield on Oct. 23, 1938, in Troy, Mo. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1981. She was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Dixon.

Survivors include two sons, Dale W. (Mary) Mayfield of Dixon and Mark Mayfield of Tampico; two sisters, Mildred Wheelock of Quincy and Rolene Bailey of Plymouth; one sister-in-law, Margie Thompson of Lakeland, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Mayfield; one sister, Marjorie Tucker; and one brother, Otis Kerley.

There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday at Quincy Memorial Park in Quincy. Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements. 

The family has requested that flowers be omitted. A memorial has been established to First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Dixon.
