Tryouts for the 10-and-under Sterling Steam softball team will take place at 10 a.m. Aug. 3.

Bulls likely to open in Miami

According to a preliminary 2013-14 NBA schedule, which is subject to revision, the Miami Heat will open their second consecutive championship defense on Oct. 29 at AmericanAirlines Arena against the Bulls.

Hernandez case: more indictments possible

According to a Boston Globe report citing two law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation, a grand jury could indict former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez on two more murder charges.

Prosecutors are asking a grand jury to weigh whether Hernandez should be charged in the shooting death of two men in Boston last July.

Investigators believe Hernandez was worried Lloyd had information about the double homicide.

Judge Daniel O’Shea delayed Hernandez’s probable cause hearing until Aug. 22 to give prosecutors more time to present evidence.

Hernandez will be held without bail until then.

Titans rookie saves family in burning car

Titans linebacker Jonathan “Tig” Willard says he helped rescue a family from a burning vehicle on his way to Tennessee training camp.

After seeing flames shoot out the back of the vehicle, Willard pulled out two children. A second man who stopped rescued a third child and a dog, and they were able to grab the woman’s purse and a couple of bags before the SUV exploded into flames a couple of minutes later.

Revis cleared to join Bucs in practice

Cornerback Darrelle Revis was medically cleared for Tampa Bay team activities after missing most of last season with the Jets because of a torn knee ligament.

The Bucs acquired Revis from the Jets in exchange for the 13th overall pick in this year’s draft, then signed him to a 6-year, $96 million contract.

Donovan leads U.S. into Gold Cup final

Landon Donovan scored twice in the U.S. men’s soccer team’s 3-1 victory over Honduras in a Gold Cup semifinal match at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The Amercians will meet Panama, a 2-1 winner over Mexico, in the championship Sunday in Chicago.

Hawks sign veteran forward Winchester

The Blackhawks signed forward Brad Winchester on a 1-year contract.

The 32-year-old had 27 points (nine goals, 18 assists) in 37 AHL games with the Milwaukee Admirals last season. He has 68 points in 390 NHL games.
