STERLING – A balloon launch this evening and a ride Saturday are planned to honor the memories of Jade Garza and Hannah Kendall, 14-year-old best friends who were electrocuted 2 years ago today while detasseling.
The balloon launch will be at 6 tonight on the lawn between Challand Middle School and Jefferson Elementary School, said Jade’s stepfather, Mike Knapp.
The memorial ride begins with a gathering at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Champs Sports Bar and Grill, 216 Locust St. The ride starts at 5:30 p.m.
All vehicles are welcome; there is no charge to participate. Among the stops will be the girls’ graves.
Champs will have $5 burger baskets available to participants, and the Knuckle Deep band will play, including some tribute songs to the girls.
