Business Notebook: Bakery coming to Dixon

DIXON – The smell of doughnuts may be wafting along North Galena Avenue as soon as September or October.

Jim Helle, owner of Folsom’s Bakery in Rock Falls, plans to open a Folsom’s bakery and cafe at 847 N. Galena Ave. in Dixon, next to Jimmy John’s.

Helle plans to add gourmet coffee and cappuccinos to the menu of baked goods he serves in Rock Falls.

He’s also seeking approval from the city to install a drive-up window to serve coffee to go.

Liquor store making progress

DIXON – Construction has begun again on the Liquor ’N’ Wine retail store at 840 N. Galena Ave.

Concern over drainage at the former Premier Car Wash site temporarily held up the project, which will include the store and space for three other businesses.

The liquor chain, owned by Manesh Patel, has three other locations, including one in Rochelle.

RadioShack moving near 88

DIXON – Another retail store will be making its way to Presidential Parkway Plaza on South Galena Avenue near Interstate 88.

RadioShack is moving into the spot between GNC and Fiesta Cancun. The electronics store could open around Oct. 1, Brett Paul of Xsite Real Estate said.

Another retail store is in talks about moving into the plaza, but nothing has been finalized, Paul said.
