Joey Logano held off Sam Hornish Jr. to win the NASCAR Nationwide race Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet.
Logano, the lone Sprint Cup regular in the race, earned his second Nationwide win of the year and No. 20 for his career. He also won at Dover in June.
A-Rod will not rejoin Yankees as planned
Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez isn’t ready to rejoin the team.
Rodriguez has a Grade 1 strain of his left quadriceps muscle and won’t be able to return this week in Texas. Instead, Rodriguez will remain on the disabled list and return to Tampa, Fla., for rest and treatment.
Manager Joe Girardi had said he hoped Rodriguez would return for Tuesday’s game against the Rangers. But he was sent to New York-Presbyterian Hospital for an MRI on Sunday.
Kemp homers in return, then gets hurt
Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp returned to the lineup with a home run and a double in the second inning, then limped off the field in the ninth.
The Dodgers completed a sweep of the Nationals on Sunday with a 9-2 win. The game marked the first time Kemp, Hanley Ramirez and Carl Crawford were in the starting lineup at the same time. But Kemp hurt his left ankle sliding into home plate on a force play.
Wrigley plan could get OK this week
The Ricketts family’s push to remake Wrigley Field and the surrounding area is expected to be approved this week.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel is pushing for approval by the Zoning Committee on Tuesday and the full council on Wednesday, before aldermen take their August recess.
The $500 million, 5-year plan would renovate the ballpark, put up a hotel and build an office-retail complex and plaza. Baseball fans would see a host of new signage at Wrigley, including a 5,700-square-foot video board in left field.
Gators’ Morrison arrested, suspended
Troubled Gators sophomore linebacker Antonio Morrison has been suspended at least two games following his second arrest in a little more than a month.
Morrison, the team’s starting middle linebacker, was arrested on Sunday morning for harassing a police animal, according to a Gainesville Police Department report.
This comes on the heels of Morrison’s June 16 arrest for punching a bouncer at a Gainesville bar.
Serena beats Larsson, wins Swedish Open
Serena Williams won her 53rd WTA title by beating Johanna Larsson 6-4, 6-1 in the final of the Swedish Open on Sunday in
The 24-year-old Swede broke to lead 3-1 in the first set before Williams fought back to 3-3.
Larsson advanced to 4-3 before caving in to the American’s strong serve and losing the next three games.
