STERLING – The body of the man found in the Rock River near Erie on July 5 was positively identified as missing swimmer Javier Tiscareno, Whiteside County Coroner Joseph McDonald said in a news release Sunday.

Tiscareno, 31, of Brookfield, went missing June 23 while swimming in the Rock River with a friend near Prophetstown State Park.

Crews searched the river nearly 2 weeks before his body was spotted by boaters about 18 miles downriver from the park.

An official cause of death has not been released; presumably toxicology results, which could take several weeks, still are pending.
