Dixon 12U team wins Missouri World Series
The Dixon Riverbandits’ 12U team won the Branson, Mo., USSSA “AA” World Series, which took place July 9-13.
The Riverbandits went 7-0 in the tournament and beat the Texas Vipers 6-3 in the title game.
The Dixon team ended its season No. 1 in the state and No. 2 nationally, based on USSSA “AA” power rankings. Members of the team were Tucker Welch, Oscar Van Sickle, Mitchell McGlaughlin, Joseph Heckert, Jett Gaffey, Cade Gorzney, Justin Young, Lucas Hammond and Andrew Lohse.
Rock Falls booster outing is Aug. 10
The first Rock Falls High School Athletic Booster Club golf outing will be Aug. 10 at Rock River Golf and Pool.

Kings give Brown 8-year extension
The Los Angeles Kings agreed to an 8-year contract extension with Dustin Brown that will keep the team captain in L.A. through the 2021-22 season.
Brown, who has played all nine of his NHL seasons in L.A., had 1 year left on his deal. He has 181 goals, 207 assists and 452 penalty minutes in 641 regular-season games.
Sox’s Minoso to get Clemente Award
Chicago White Sox ambassador Minnie Minoso will receive the Roberto Clemente Award for Sports Excellence by the National Council of La Raza at the group’s annual conference awards gala Tuesday.
Minoso, known as the ‘’Cuban Comet’’ during his playing days, became the major league’s first black Latino player in 1951 with the Sox. He became the first black Latino player to play in an All-Star game and earned seven All-Star selections and three Gold Glove awards.
Sox sign Ishikawa to minor-league deal
The White Sox signed left-handed hitting first baseman Travis Ishikawa to a minor league contract.
Ishikawa, 29, who has played for San Francisco, Milwaukee, Baltimore and the Yankees, will report to Triple-A Charlotte.
Colts’ Saunders gets 8-game suspension
Indianapolis Colts tight end Weslye Saunders was suspended eight games without pay for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.
League officials did not say Thursday what substance was found in Saunders’ test.
