DIXON – Jefferson, Lincoln and Washington schools all will have new principals in 2013-2014.
The Dixon School Board appointed Joey Sagel to become the new principal of Jefferson, meaning Jefferson Principal Jeff Gould will move to Washington and Washington Principal Daniel Rick to Lincoln.
Susan Johnson, who was principal at Lincoln, asked to switch to being a teacher at Reagan Middle School this year.
Superintendent Michael Juenger said no performance issues led to the swaps.
Sagel, 34, spent his last 2 years as principal of AFC Elementary School. He taught 4 years at Washington before that.
“Dixon is my adopted home,” said Sagel, who has a master’s degree in special education from Illinois State University and his principal certification from Aurora University. “I’m excited to return to the district. Dixon was a real time of growth for me.”
In other items, Dixon schools will continue its Tools for Schools program for the fifth year.
Last year, it provided 650 K-12 students on the reduced lunch list with backpacks and school supplies. Donations and volunteer efforts fund the program.
Board President Pam Tourtillott said the program will need volunteers to pack bookbags Aug. 15 and to shop for supplies until then.
Those interested should email her at email@example.com or call the school district at 815-284-7722.
“This program is wonderful, and it’s made a huge difference to our students,” Tourtillott said.
Also, the school board has not reached an agreement with its paraprofessionals union, which represent 48 full- and 16 part-time teachers’ aides and assistants.
The district has reached agreements with its other district employees. Each group received around a 2 percent pay raise. The two sides will meet again in August, Juenger said.
Also Wednesday, the board agreed to transfer $450,000 from the working cash fund to the fire prevention and safety fund to pay for construction projects at Reagan Middle School.
