DIXON – Project Volunteers in Teaching Adult Literacy will host a new, hybrid tutor training at Sauk Valley Community College, 173 state Route 2.

Tutors will attend an orientation Aug. 12 to learn about Project VITAL, meet with veteran mentors, and discuss online learning opportunities. After orientation, the tutors will shadow mentors and complete online learning modules. Training will end with an Aug. 26 in-service, when tutors will meet their students.

Both sessions will be from 5 to 7 p.m. A light dinner will follow.

Anyone interested in becoming a tutor may call 815-835-6241 to register.

Project VITAL is a free, confidential tutoring program for local adults looking to improve reading, writing, and other basic academic skills. Tutors meet with their students 2 to 4 hours a week, and are supplied all necessary material as well as support.
