Fundraising tourney Sunday in Amboy

The second Do the Lou Golf Classic will be held Sunday at Shady Oaks Country Club in Amboy.

Registration is $62 for non-members and $35 for members. All proceeds benefit ALS – better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease – research.

Hawks re-up with forward Beach

The Blackhawks agreed to terms with forward Kyle Beach on a 1-year contract.

Beach, 23, had 26 points in 66 games with Rockford in 2012-13 and led the team with a career-high 204 penalty minutes.

Chicago took Beach 11th overall in the 2008 draft.


USOC rejects call to boycott Sochi games

The United States Olympic Committee rejected a call to boycott the Sochi Winter Olympics if Russia grants asylum to Edward Snowden.

The U.S. boycotted the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow in protest of the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan. The Soviet Union responded by leading a boycott by Eastern bloc countries of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.


Froome wins third stage, pads lead

Chris Froome won his third stage of the Tour de France on Wednesday when he beat Alberto Contador by 9 seconds in the 17th stage.

Froome clocked 51 minutes 33 seconds to extend his lead over second-placed Contador to 4:34 going into three grueling stages in the Alps.


Bucs replace Barth with Tynes

Tampa Bay signed two-time Super Bowl winner Lawrence Tynes to replace kicker Connor Barth, who will miss the upcoming season with a torn Achilles.

Tynes, a 9-year pro, appeared in 81 games with the Giants, converting 122 of 146 field goal attempts.

Culpepper loses home to foreclosure

Former NFL quarterback Daunte Culpepper has lost a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., home he owned to a bank in a foreclosure case.

Culpepper bought the house for about $3.6 million when he was signed by the Miami Dolphins in 2006. The bank cited $3 million in debt in court papers.


NCAA: No logo,
name for EA Sports

The NCAA will not allow Electronic Arts Inc. to use its logo and name in video games while it fights a lawsuit that says the governing body owes billions of dollars to former players for allowing their likenesses to be used for free.

The NCAA said it won’t enter into a new contract with EA Sports, meaning NCAA Football 2014 will be the last edition of the popular game.
