Money given to help scholars in pursuit of college education

STERLING – Several area students are the recipients of the nursing/healthcare scholarships funded through the CGH Health Foundation.

The scholarship winners and their awards are:

■ Sheila Young of Dixon received the Althea Larson Scholarship for $3,000. She will enter her second year of nursing school at Sauk Valley Community College this fall.

■ Kandice Denning and Beriah Foust, both of Sterling, each received the $3,000 BlueSky Scholarship. Denning is pursuing her associate degree in nursing from SVCC. Foust has been accepted in the bachelor of nursing program at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

■ Stephanie McDearmon of Morrison received the $3,000 Dr. Carmelo Interone Healthcare Scholarship. She is attending medical school at Loma Linda University in California.

■ Laurie Swearingen of Rock Falls is the recipient of the $1,000 Marrietta Lilly Healthcare Scholarship. She is pursing a Bachelor of Science degree in healthcare leadership at the University of St. Francis in Joliet.

■ Susan Bauer of Dixon received the $1,500 Ron Smeltzer Nursing Scholarship. She is a student at SVCC, pursuing her nursing degree.

■ Jasmyn Kierczynski of Rock Falls and Caitlin Liston of Sterling, nursing students, are the recipients of the $3,000 Sterling Rock Falls Community Trust Healthcare Scholarship. Kierczynski attends Loyola University in Chicago, and Liston is at Illinois State University in Normal.
