ROCK FALLS – A Sterling man was in Whiteside County Jail on Monday after a Rock Falls car crash, and possibly a drive-by shooting, ended in a stabbing Friday night.

At about 10:30 on Friday night, the Rock Falls Police Department received reports of two cars driving recklessly in the 800 block of Avenue A. Shortly after, they responded to a call about a two-car crash on First Avenue, near the intersection of 10th Street.

Four people were involved in the crash, two in each car. At least one of them had a knife.

According to police, a fight broke out after the crash, and Reginaldo Rosas, 21, of Sterling, stabbed 38-year-old Daniel Medina of Rock Falls.

Rosas is being held on $50,000 bond, charged with aggravated battery with a weapon.

Both men and a passenger were taken to CGH Medical Center, treated and released, police said.

Police later discovered that before the accident, there had been an incident “involving possible shots being fired” at a home on the 800 block of Avenue A.

No further information was released.

Rosas was sentenced to 2 years for aggravated battery after stabbing a man at the former M&D’s Sports Bar in Sterling in 2010.
