Rock Falls passes to go on sale

All-season sports passes will be available at the Rock Falls High School main office on Aug. 5 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. They will also be available in the main gym before “Meet the Rockets” from 5-6 p.m. on Aug. 23.

Cost for adults and students kindergarten through eighth grade is $35. Cost for adults 62 or older is $5.

RUNNING

Morrison Class of 1993 to host 5K

The Morrison High School Class of 1993 will host a 5K at Rockwood State Park at 8 a.m. on Aug. 10 at Rockwood State Park. Proceeds will go to the Morrison Schools Foundation.

Cost is $15 if you register before race day at stridesforstudents.org. Cost is $20 on race day.

Real Madrid most valuable sports team

Real Madrid headed a trio of European soccer clubs at the top of a list of the world’s 50 most valuable sports teams released by Forbes on Monday, which was dominated by National Football League franchises.

The nine-times European champions were worth $3.3 billion, up from $1.88 billion last year.

The New York Yankees ($2.3 billion) fell one spot to fourth, followed by the Dallas Cowboys ($2.1 billion) and New England Patriots ($1.6 billion).

Giants Cruz apologizes for tweet

New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz apologized Monday, a day after sending a tweet related to the George Zimmerman verdict.

Zimmerman was acquitted of murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Cruz responded via Twitter, writing: “Zimmerman doesn’t last a year before the hood catches up with him.” He quickly deleted the tweet.

Pounceys want Hernandez released

Mike Pouncey and Maurkice Pouncey want Aaron Hernandez released from jail.

That’s the message the two former Florida Gators players and current NFL centers wore on their hats during a birthday party for themselves Saturday night at a Miami Beach nightclub.

Kovalchuk signs with KHL team

lya Kovalchuk’s retirement was cut very short.The former New Jersey Devils star forward surprised the league last week by calling it quits on his NHL career, but has already signed a 4-year contract with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL.

The deal could be worth $15 million per season, according to multiple media reports.

Fowles named player of the week

Chicago Sky’s Sylvia Fowles has been named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

Fowles led the Sky during their July 10 win with 26 points.
