AMBOY – Patrick H. “PH” Dunphy, 72, of Amboy, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
He was born July 17, 1940, in Amboy, the son of Charles and Eileen (Morrissey) Dunphy. He was a 1963 graduate of Northern Illinois University.
He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam, where he received the Purple Heart.
He had been a farmer and teacher, teaching in Chicago and Polo, and substitute teaching at area schools.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Walton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Frances, sister Charlene Miles and nephews David Miles and James Dunphy, from whom “PH” received a kidney in 2007.
He is survived by three brothers, Larry (Caroline Chin) Dunphy of Dixon, Tom (Sharon) Dunphy of Amboy and Charlie (Linda) Dunphy of Harmon; two sisters, Laneita Dunphy of Wilmington, Del. and Bridget (Jim) Barry of Naperville; and numerous nieces and nephews and great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy.
Funeral services will begin with a 9:45 a.m. prayer service Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Catholic Church in Walton.
Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy, with military honors by the Amboy American Legion.
A memorial has been established to Disabled American Veterans.
