William J. Child

AMBOY – William J. Child, 70, of Amboy, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at his home.

He was born Oct. 24, 1942, in Dixon, the son of William and Virginia (Garren) Child. He married Joyce Henry on June 25, 1961, at Shaw EC Church in Amboy. He was a lifelong farmer, and a truck driver for the Teamsters. 

Bill was a member of Shaw EC Church for more than 40 years. He also was a member of Illinois Central Masonic Lodge in Amboy, where he had served as Past Worshipful Master.

Survivors include his wife, and children, Jim (Billie) Child and Cathy (Marty) Lauer, all of Amboy; five grandchildren, Laura and Shelley Child, Elizabeth (Matthew) Baker, Emmie Lauer, and Matthew Lauer; two great-grandchildren, Riley and Leon Baker; foster brother, Henry (Dianna) Toms of Dixon; one brother, Dennis (Karla) Child of Amboy; two sisters, Marilyn Johnson of Rochelle and Carole Child of Dixon; and one aunt, Phyllis Williar of Franklin Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., today at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at United First Church in Amboy, with the Rev. Charles Jeanblanc and Pastor Jack Briggs officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery in Lee Center.

A memorial has been established.
