STERLING – Florence E. Pennington, 84, of Sterling, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. She was a schoolteacher for years, sharing her love of language arts and music appreciation with many students. Later, Florence worked as a dedicated social worker for the Department of Children and Family Services for 35 years.   

Florence was born Sept. 15, 1928, in Sterling, the daughter of Dorsey Patterson and Bessie Pennington. She was a member of City of God (Worldwide Christian Center), and served for many years as a board member of CGH Medical Center in Sterling. She was known as “Aunt Sal” to all who knew and loved her. She also loved animals, especially her beloved dog, Missy.  

Survivors include a nephew, William (Julie Dandridge) Pennington, and a niece, Brenda (Shane) Holldorf, both of Sterling; and dear friends, Bernadine Coleman and Bonnie Brotheridge.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.  

A memorial has been established to Happy Tails Humane Society.
