Riverfront panel meeting tonight; docks on agenda

Published: Wednesday, July 10, 2013 1:15 a.m. CST

DIXON – The Riverfront Commission will give an update tonight on putting in boat docks at Heritage Crossing.

A subcommittee made up of boating enthusiasts and commission members met last month to talk about the project moving forward, and Chairman Larry Reed will give a report on those talks.

The project, which was heavily discussed last summer at Riverfront meetings, would cost about $153,000: $82,305 for the docks, $42,500 for a vertical anchoring system and $28,000 for labor.

The commission has only $4,665 in the Riverfront’s boat dock fund.

The meeting was moved from its regularly scheduled second Tuesday of the month to 6 tonight at City Hall, 121 W. Second St., in Council Chambers.

Other agenda items include discussion of applying for an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Programs grant, a maintenance update, review of how the Riverfront venue worked for Petunia Festival and the MidSummer’s Drawdown fundraiser scheduled for July 20.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
