Say thanks to Michael

DIXON – A benefit for Army Spc. Michael Shoemaker Jr. of Eldena, injured in an ammunition explosion in Afghanistan, starts at 10 a.m. Saturday with a parade that begins Dixon High School and ends at the Ronald Reagan statue on the Riverfront. 

Children's activities such as face-painting, clowns and a bounce house will follow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dixon VFW, 1560 Franklin Grove Road. From 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., Rout 38, Robbie LeBlanc, Something Like That and Kenny Kent will play, and there will be 50/50 and other raffles; a Texas Hold 'em poker tourney, a silent auction and a bake sale.

Summer Splash and antique tractors

ROCK FALLS – The Rock Falls Chamber of Commerce's Summer Splash returns to the downtown Riverfront from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. There will be a cookout featuring buffalo, elk, alligator, pork chops and brats; kids activities; vendors; crafters and more.

While you're in town Saturday, stop by to see the tractors, engines, and equipment that will be on display from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Long Shot Sports Bar and Grill, 3312 West Rock Falls Road/U.S. Route 30.

The annual Rock Falls Antique Tractor and Engine Show and Cookout also will have blacksmith demonstrations; tractor parts and equipment for sale; a playground and scavenger hunt for the kids; and a food drive for Sauk Valley Food Bank.

Sterling Street Faire

STERLING – The new Sterling Street Faire will be open from 3 to 7 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of West Third Street.

For $25, for-profit vendors can get a 10-by-20-foot space on a first-come, first-served basis. Nonprofits can sell for free, and admission is free to shoppers.
