Sterling’s Vandersee earns academic honor
Recent Augustana College graduate Megan Vandersee of Sterling was named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar team.
Vandersee had a grade point average of 3.6 and graduated with a degree in chemistry education. She was also the Vikings’ MVP, with a scoring average of 87.4.

Cubs ‘frontunners’ for Taiwanese pitcher
Jen-Ho Tseng, a Taiwanese 18-year-old with a mid-90s fastball, is a prime target for the Cubs.
The Cubs were believed to be heavily pursuing Tseng last week, when the Chicago Tribune reported the Cubs were willing to spend a lot more than the $6.1 million they committed to Eloy Jimenez, Gleyber Torres, Jefferson Mejia and Erling Moreno.
MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez tweeted Monday that the Cubs are the frontrunners for Tseng.
Cruz gets 5-year extension from Giants
New York Giants star receiver Victor Cruz signed a 5-year contract extension that runs through the 2018 season.
Cruz was a restricted free agent with 3 years in the NFL. Last month, he signed a 1-year, $2.879 million tender with the Giants, but the new deal is worth $43 million.
O’Neil hired as
The Philadelphia 76ers have hired Scott O’Neil as their new chief executive officer. The former Madison Square Garden president replaces Adam Aron, who will remain team co-owner and board member.
Aron will also become chairman and CEO of a new investment vehicle that is funded by the Sixers ownership group.
Jets’ Ryan runs
with bulls in Spain
New York Jets coach Rex Ryan joined thousands of thrill-seekers Sunday and Monday in the annual running of the bulls at the San Fermin festival in Pamplona, Spain.
The team confirmed Monday that Ryan was uninjured while participating both days in the run, which is the highlight of a nine-day street festival and is televised nationally.
