DIXON – Supporters of reopening Veterans Memorial Pool will meet again Wednesday.

The first meeting drew about 40 people, organizer Marilyn Trulock said.

Supporters, who are breaking into committees to study the issue and come up with a plan, will meet again at 7 p.m. at the Public Safety Building community room, 220 S. Hennepin Ave.

The meeting had been planned for Dixon City Hall, but was moved Tuesday.

The Dixon Park District has said it would give the Memorial Pool property to the city, if it were to ask for it, under the condition it remain a public pool.

“We’re going to give this one last try,” Trulock said.

The pool has been mothballed since 2000 because voters refuse to foot the multimillion-dollar restoration bill.

In a recent Sauk Valley Media article, 18 out of 18 teenagers randomly interviewed said reopening the pool is at the top of their recreational wish list.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
