Hazel I. Kessel

AMBOY – Hazel I. Kessel, 79, of Amboy, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at Green Acres Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Amboy.

She was born Aug. 26, 1933, in Rochelle, the daughter of Russel W. and Eunice (Phillips) Hardesty. Hazel married Thomas L. Kessel on Aug. 3, 1957, in Dixon. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1991.  

She enjoyed playing bingo, senior meals at the Amboy Community Building, and visiting with the ladies at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amboy.

Survivors include her son, Thomas L. (Vicki) Kessel of Ohio; daughter, Teresa (Marlin) Rasmussen of Rockford; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Nancy) Hardesty of Jacksonville, Fla.; and one sister, Helen (Gerald) Anderson of Decatur.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Carol Soderholm, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amboy, officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in La Moille.

A memorial has been established.
