PROPHETSTOWN – The search for a man who went missing in the Rock River on June 23 has ended.

Authorities recovered the body of Javier Tiscareno, 30, of Brookfield, a Chicago suburb, from the river, near Jersey and Elton roads, southwest of Erie, about 4 p.m. Friday, according to a news release from Whiteside County Coroner Joe McDonald.

Boaters found his body and contacted the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, which responded to the scene with the Erie Fire Department. It was taken to the county morgue in Sterling. An autopsy was to be done Saturday.

Tiscareno and some friends came to Prophetstown State Park on June 22. They went fishing that day and swimming the next.

They were in the water less than a half-hour. Tiscareno seemed fine, even talking to campers along the shore, according to some reports. He seemed dazed and appeared drunk, according to others.

Either way, he quickly went missing.

Crews from various local agencies searched the river near the state park and beyond from the evening Tiscareno went missing until Friday, when his body was found, about 2 weeks total. High river levels made the search difficult, and authorities believed the body was stuck on the bottom.
