STERLING – The Whiteside County Senior Center provides food relief to families in need.
Its commodities program helped more than 2,364 households – or 5,792 individuals – in the county in 2012.
Recipients must meet income guidelines established by the state Department of Human Services. They receive food once a month; the quantity is based on the size of each family.
Food is donated by River Bend Food Bank, Sauk Valley Food Bank, The Salvation Army, local producers, and several retail stores.
Quantities are limited at times. Food and money to buy additional food are needed. Anyone who would like to donate can make checks payable to Whiteside County Senior Center and send them to 1207 W. Ninth St., Sterling, IL 61081.
