TAMPICO – Lawrence L. Thome, 94, of Sterling and formerly of Tampico, died Thursday, July 4, 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Lawrence was born on May 28, 1919, in Harmon, the son of Roy and Minnie (Kunde) Thome. He was united in marriage to Mildred M. Lee on April 28, 1938, in Iowa. They were married for 67 years. She preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 2005. Lawrence farmed in the Tampico area for 44 years. He served on the Tampico school board and Tampico Elevator board. He also was a member of the Tampico Methodist Church and the Masons for 50 years.

His survivors include one son, Larry (Judy) Thome of Tampico; one daughter, Jerria (Neil) Cady of Rock Falls; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Beverly (Sam) Beattie of Rock Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister and two stepsisters.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Tampico. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Leanne Keate, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Tampico Memorial Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church of Tampico.
