Newman to host Beebe speed camp

Newman High School will host the Don Beebe House of Speed camp Mondays and Wednesdays from July 1 to Aug. 8.

Cost is $10 per session attended. Each will last from 7-8:30 p.m.


Hawks, goaltender Emery negotiating

Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman and the agent for goaltender Ray Emery were scheduled to meet Tuesday in further talks on a new contract.

Emery shared time with Corey Crawford during the regular season and posted a record of 17-1-0 with a 1.94 goals-against average and .922 save percentage. He became the first goalie in NHL history to win his first 12 starts of a season.

Hawks’ 1961 banner up for auction

The Blackhawks’ original 1961 Stanley Cup championship banner will be put up for auction July 16. Leslie Hindman Auctioneers will handle the single-item, online-only sale at 6 p.m.

The Hawks won the ‘61 Cup by beating the Detroit Red Wings in six games.

Boston’s Bergeron will not need surgery

Patrice Bergeron won’t undergo surgery for the myriad injuries he sustained as the Boston Bruins attempted to win their second Stanley Cup in the last three seasons. 

Bergeron suffered a fractured rib, torn rib cartilage, punctured (and then collapsed) lung on his left side, and a separated right shoulder over the course of the Cup Finals.


Bulls bring back Mohammed for 1 year

Center Nazr Mohammed verbally agreed on a 1-year contract to re-sign with the Bulls at the veteran’s minimum salary.

Mohammed averaged 2.6 points and 3.1 rebounds in 11 minutes.

Pacers, West
finalizing deal

The Pacers and David West are finalizing a 3-year, $36 million contract.

West, 32, played a large part in the Pacers’ advance to the Eastern Conference finals. He averaged 17.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists a game during the season.

Suns, Clippers, Bucks complete trade

A three-team trade by the Clippers, Suns and Bucks was made Tuesday that included Eric Bledsoe and J.J. Redick.

Redick and Jared Dudley ended up with the Clippers, Bledsoe and Caron Butler went to the Suns and the Milwaukee Bucks received two second-round draft picks, according to the report.


Gerrans leads at Tour de France

Simon Gerrans was part of the Orica Greenedge squad that won the team time trial by less than 1 second Tuesday in the fourth stage, putting him in the overall lead.

Gerrans, who won stage 3 in a sprint finish, took the overall lead from Jan Bakelants.
