Exotic foods, family fun on tap

ROCK FALLS – The Rock Falls Chamber of Commerce’s Summer Splash fun fest returns to the banks of the Rock River this weekend, at the corner of East Second Street and Avenue A.

It features the popular exotic meats cookout – alligator brats, buffalo and elk burgers, along with standard fare such as burgers and pork chops – which includes a drive-up service or the ability to order five meals or more for pickup; a business showcase that gives crafters, vendors, businesses, and nonprofits a chance to show and sell their goods and services; and a host of other family-friendly activities.

The schedule:


11 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Cookout (order ahead for pickup up until 10 a.m. at 815-973-0532), the Business Showcase.

3 to 6 p.m.: Free family and kids activities, such as bounce houses, water rides, games, and hands-on activities.

Noon: K-9 dogs demonstration.

4 to 5 p.m.: Hunter Seidel Acoustic Music Show.

5 to 6 p.m.: Free swing lessons, a live ballroom dance performance and a dance competition with prizes from Julie Dale Dance Studios.


7 to 10 a.m. : Barber Shopper’s Singing Breakfast, with music and pancakes made fresh.

10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: 3 on 3 Basketball Tourney, if enough teams sign up.

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Cookout (order ahead for pickup up until 10 a.m. at 815-973-0532); business showcase; free family and kids activities; live music, the National Guard and more.

11 a.m.: Zumba demonstration.

Noon: Culver’s custard-eating contest.

1 p.m.: K-9 dogs demonstration.
