Thinking about approaching that Dixon Reagan Run 5K challenge, but don’t know how to move forward with it?
It comes down to the K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid) method we apply to so many situations in life. Why should this be any different?
Whether the Reagan Run is a competition, a fitness test, a challenge from a friend or a check-it-off-the-list item, there are a few things you should be thinking about as next Saturday approaches (here comes the K.I.S.S.).
Friday, the day before the race, should be fun and relaxing. Go out and enjoy some free time. Rest and relax as much as possible. That will help reduce pre-race stress and help you mentally prepare for the big day.
Be sure to eat well and hydrate for a few days to meet the demands of your body. Also, be sure to set out all of your favorite running clothes the day before to avoid the dreaded laundry run at 6 in the morning.
Keep those positive attitudes flowing by encouraging family, friends and your fellow runners. Remember, the day before is about conserving your energy and maintaining some pleasant anticipation of your race-day outcome.
Being a fan of running as a means for fitness, I will leave you with a quote from George Sheehan, author of “Running & Being: The Total Experience,” a New York Times bestseller:
“It is very hard in the beginning to understand that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners. Eventually, you learn that the competition is against the little voice inside you that wants you to quit.”
