MORRISON – State money has been awarded for road and bridge work on several projects in Whiteside and Bureau counties.

Morrison is getting more than $250,000 from the state to patch almost a mile of U.S. Route 30 through the heart of the city.

Sjostrom & Sons of Rockford was the lowest of three bidders with a quote of $251,309 for the project, which spans U.S. Route 30 (Lincoln Way) from Hillandale Court to Bartlet Street.

In Bureau County, three steel bridges will be cleaned and painted by Three Star Painting Inc. of Merrillville, Ind.:

-- One carrying Township Road 364 over Interstate 80, a little more than 3 miles south of the state Route 89 interchange.

-- One carrying Township Road 322 over I-80, about 1.5 miles east of the I-180 interchange.

-- One carrying U.S. Route 6 over East Bureau Creek, about a little more than a mile east of the I-180 interchange.

Together, all three projects will cost slightly less that $695,000.

The Illinois Department of Transportation will manage all four projects.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
