E-P’s Miner to play
at Black Hawk

Former Erie-Prophetstown athlete Caleb Miner will play baseball next spring at Black Hawk College, the school confirmed through Twitter.

Miner, a 2012 Erie High School graduate, was the Panthers’ starting shortstop in 2011 and ’12. He batted .406 (.520 OBP, .653 SLG) with 14 RBIs as a first-team All-Three Rivers selection during E-P’s run to the state tournament in 2011, then hit .364 (.470 OBP, .500 SLG) with 18 RBIs as a unanimous all-conference pick in 2012.

Miner was a first-teamer on the 2011 SVM all-area team, and a second-teamer on the 2012

Zambrano comeback hits snag

The Carlos Zambrano watch is apparently over.

The 32-year-old former three-time National League all-star left his start with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs Friday after the second inning with an apparent injury to his right arm or shoulder.

Zambrano, signed to a minor league contract on May 15, pointed to his shoulder as he left the mound following the second inning and went straight through the tunnel into the IronPigs clubhouse.

Gillespie re-joins White Sox

The White Sox had an extra third baseman for Friday’s doubleheader against the Indians.

Conor Gillaspie returned from paternity leave, and the team decided to keep his replacement, Brent Morel, as the 26th player, which is allowed for doubleheaders.
