No-wake ordinance in effect for Whiteside, Lee

The Lee and Whiteside County sheriffs have instituted a no-wake ordinance on the Rock River until further notice.

The river is expected to hit flood stage this morning and continue to rise throughout the day, the sheriffs said in a news release.

The recent rains have created swift currents and sent dangerous debris floating downstream, making it hazardous for boaters and treacherous for rescue workers who respond to boating emergencies, the release said.

Those recreating on and near the river are urged to use caution.

Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
