MLB: Garza dazzles scouts, crowd at Miller Park

Cubs starter Matt Garza throws to the Brewers' Juan Francisco during the fifth inning Thursday in Milwaukee. Garza struck out 10 over seven innings, and the Cubs won 7-2 to take their first series at Miller Park since September 2010.

MILWAUKEE – Matt Garza picked up where he left off in his previous two outings, as more scouts were on hand Thursday to watch the veteran right-hander at Miller Park.

Garza went seven strong innings, allowing one run and eight hits. He struck out 10 and walked one while improving to 3-1 with a 3.83 ERA as the Cubs topped the Brewers 7-2.

Winning two out of three in the series, the Cubs beat Brewers right-handed starter Wily Peralta, as Dioner Navarro hit a three-run homer to lead the Cubs’ nine-hit attack.

“It’s a blast when they spot you with seven [runs] before the fifth inning,” Garza said. “My job was just to put up a zero every time we scored and not let them get any momentum.”

The Cubs captured their first series at Miller Park since winning two of three Sept. 10-12, 2010. The Cubs had lost their previous seven series in Milwaukee.
