OREGON – Mary F. Dirksen Barnhart, 66, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born May 19, 1947, in Oregon, the daughter of Ernest and Ethel (Holby) Dirksen. She graduated from Oregon High School in 1965, where she met her husband, Reuben H. Barnhart III. They were married in March of 1966 at Oregon United Methodist Church.

Mary was a licensed day care provider for many years until they moved to Marion, Ohio, in 1987. They lived there for 2 years until moving to Braidwood in 1989. They stayed in Braidwood until they retired in 2005 and moved back home to Oregon. Mary spent her time with her soul mate Reuben and her three children and six grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to support her family, whether at a sporting/school activity, a holiday, or by making someone chicken noodle soup when they were sick. Her family was her life, and she will be missed more than we ever thought possible.

She is survived by her husband, Reuben H. Barnhart III; her children, Lisa (David) Boehle, Reuben “Andy” (Kendra) Barnhart, and Diana (Chris) Weber; grandchildren, Megan Boehle, Nik, Hunter and Andrew Barnhart, and Allison and Katelyn Weber; her brother, Don (Gail) Dirksen; and her mother and father-in-law, Reuben Jr. and Delores Barnhart, all of Oregon; brothers-in-law, Steve (Deb) Barnhart of Florida and Tim (Deb) Barnhart of Oregon; sister-in-law, Beth (Steve) DuBois of Iowa; and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ethel Dirksen; and her nephew, Dean Dirksen.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. Seventh St., Oregon. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Gary Blobaum officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Oregon.

Memorials may be sent to Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon.
