MORRISON – OK, so maybe you weren’t born in a barn, but maybe you want to get married in one.

Karen Rogers plans to provide that service. “Barn weddings are pretty big right now,” she says.

Thursday, she asked the Whiteside County Planning and Zoning Commission for a special-use permit for an events center on her property at 2206 Prophet Road in Rock Falls, near Interstate 88.

Rogers said the events would be held in an old barn that she improved to keep it from collapsing. If it succeeds, she said, she’ll do more upgrades.

Rogers simply will provide the shelter; customers would have to bring things such as portable toilets, she said.

Asked whether noise would be a problem, Rogers said that she doesn’t have many neighbors and the events would face the interstate.

The commission unanimously approved her request. The issue now goes to the County Board, which has the final say.
