DIXON – Barbara L. Sachs, 87, of Dixon, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford. She was a credit manager for many years at Montgomery Ward Department Store in Dixon, and was a piano teacher in the Dixon area for more than 50 years.

Barbara was born April 1, 1926, in Rochelle, the daughter of William and Frances (Patrick) Hubbard. She married Raymond F. Sachs on Sept. 26, 1948, in Rochelle.

Barbara taught Sunday school and sang in the choir at First United Methodist Church in Dixon, and played in the Dixon Municipal Band. She loved to garden, and was an excellent cook.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Sachs of Dixon; one son, Ray (Margo) Sachs of Cookeville, Tenn.; two daughters, Susan (Robert) Shuttleworth of San Diego and Jo Ann (Steve) Burkholder of Rockford; one brother, William (Carol) Hubbard of Kings; one sister, Glendolyn Carson of Rochelle; four grandchildren, Charles (Faith) Sachs of Amboy, Joshua Sachs of Sterling, Adam Shuttleworth of San Diego, and Tyler Burkholder of Rockford; and two great-grandchildren, Hope and Emily Sachs of Amboy.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Nancy Sachs; and one grandson, Jeremy Burkholder.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cheri L. Stewart, pastor of Prophetstown United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

A memorial has been established.
