Timber Lake offers theater workshops for kids

MOUNT CARROLL – Timber Lake Playhouse is offering a 1-day workshop for children ages 8 to 12 on July 13, and a weeklong theater immersion workshop for teens July 15-19.

The one-day workshop runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 8215 Black Oak Road. Cost is $25 and includes a ticket to TLP’s 2 p.m. production of “Seussical,” a musical based on the books of Dr. Seuss.

The teen week offers intensives in acting, dance, creative writing, theatrical design and improvisation from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. They are taught by TLP company members who also are dance and theater teachers. The week culminates with an original performance incorporating all of the elements covered in the workshops.

Teachers include Cameron Turner, an award-winning Chicagoland area dance teacher,  and Joseph Capstick, who teaches acting and dance. Executive Director James Beaudry, who has taught in New York and Chicago, oversees the program.

Cost is $125, which includes lunch daily, and a ticket to Monty Python’s “Spamalot,” which runs Aug. 1-11.
