MORRISON – Two Morrison men are charged in connection with the burglaries of two church buildings.

Colton M. Merema, 18, and Jeremy J. Shaner, 21, each face two felony counts of burglary. Merema was arrested Saturday and Shaner Sunday; both were taken to Whiteside County Jail.

Merema is being held on $20,000 bond and Shaner on $10,000 bond.

They are accused of burglarizing the administrative office of Crossroads Community Church, 125 W. Main St., and the church’s youth center at 201 W. Market St.

They forced their way into the office, getting the keys for the youth center, Police Chief Brian Melton said.

In the burglaries, which happened in the late evening of June 9, an undisclosed amount of cash, a computer monitor, a computer keyboard and a video game system were taken.

Police believe they had gone to the youth center before, Melton said.
