School seeks volunteers for cleanup day

Published: Friday, June 28, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

With the failure of the state of Illinois to send the funding that is owed to the Morrison School District and other school districts in the state, the district budget has become very tight.

This year, we will end with a budget deficit, and next year appears to be similar.

Morrison’s first priority is to maintain student programs and keep class sizes appropriate. This means that the district was forced to reduce in all other areas.

One of the areas we had to reduce is our summer cleaning help. We went from eight full-time summer helpers to three half-time helpers. We also had to eliminate our painting crew.

We still want to have our facilities look good.

To bridge this gap, we are having a day where different groups in the community can select a project to work on and complete needed projects. Projects are assigned in the order of the requests that are received. Individuals may also volunteer and be part of a larger group.

If someone is not available on Saturday, Aug. 3, or is not physically able to help, there is a list of supplies that are needed.

We are also asking for lunch items to help feed the volunteers. Lunch will be at noon in the high school cafeteria.

From 2 to 4 p.m., there will be a free pool party to thank the volunteers and help everyone cool down.

If there are any questions, please contact the school district office at 815-772-2064. Your help is appreciated.
