MORRISON – The deadline for Whiteside County residents to apply for federal disaster aid is just 2 weeks away.
Victims of the severe storms and flooding that hit the area between April 16 and May 5 must apply by July 9.
Federal disaster assistance could cover expenses related to flooding, such as the costs of cleaning basements, replacing furnaces and hot water heaters, and repairing foundations. Aid could come in the form of grants to help with temporary housing, home repairs or replacement, or other disaster-related expenses, as well as low-interest loans.
Apply at 800-621-3362, www.disasterassistance.gov or m.fema.gov on a smartphone.
Applicants will need their Social Security numbers, insurance information and financial information, including annual household income.
Disaster assistance grants are not considered taxable income and will not affect eligibility for Social Security, Medicaid, disability insurance, food stamps and other forms of federal assistance.
