Walnut 5K set for July 6
The Walnut 5K Run/Walk for ALS Research will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 6, in front of Bureau Valley North Junior High.
Entry fee is $15 before June 29, and $20 after June 29; all who register before June 29th receive a free T-shirt. Registration on race day begins at 7 a.m. at a tent located jsut south of the school. Trophies will be awarded to the top three overall males and females, with medals to the top three in each age group.

Elks Junior tourney coming to Dixon
Lost Nation Golf Club will be a regional site of an Elks Junior Golf Tournament, on Monday, July 15.
Lost Nation is the final tournament of six regional sites; the others are Mount Vernon, Granite City, Kankakee, Lincoln and Peoria. Each regional is a qualifier for the Elks Junior Golf Tournament of Champions on July 29 in Pontiac; the top five boys and girls in each of six divisions at each regional will advance.
There will be boys and girls divisions at each of three age groups: 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18. The entry fee is $15, and for the Dixon tournament, should be mailed, along with an entry form, to Jay Wolfe, Dixon Elks #779, 2076 Grand Detour Rd., Dixon, 61021.

Kings’ Sutter has double-hernia surgery
After Los Angeles was eliminated by the Blackhawks, Kings coach and former Chicago player Darryl Sutter had double-hernia surgery.
Kings deal goalie Bernier to Toronto
The Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday acquired goaltender Jonathan Bernier from the Kings.
Toronto gave up forward Matt Frattin, backup goaltender Ben Scrivens and a second-round pick in the 2014 or 2015 draft.
The 24-year-old Bernier played in 14 regular-season games for the Kings in 2012-13, compiling a 9-3-1 record with a goals-against average of 1.88 and save percentage of .922.
Scrivens, 26, played 20 games for the Maple Leafs this past season with a 7-9 record. Frattin, 25, had seven goals and six assists in 25 regular-season games for the Leafs in 2012-13.
Big Ten adds two California bowls
The Big Ten is adding the Holiday Bowl and the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl to its future postseason lineup and will face Pac-12 teams in both games, according to ESPN.com.
Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany will announce the moves during a conference call this afternoon with bowl officials and Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott, according to sources. The Pac-12 is continuing its agreements with both bowls for the next cycle, which begins in the 2014 season.
