Genealogists plan Harmon field trip

HARMON – The Lee County Genealogical Society will take a trip to the home of the “Babe” and Dave Brandon at 52 Van Petten Road.

The group will visit at 7 p.m. Monday. The Brandons’ library contains 7,000 books from historical to contemporary. The reading material can be checked out for a month at a time. They also have a blacksmith shop and give demonstrations the third Sunday of the month from September to April. There also is a history of the town of Van Petten.

Refreshments will be served. There is no charge to attend; those attending should bring lawn chairs.

Directions: Go south on Harmon Road off Rock Island Blacktop, go through Harmon and continue just over 2 miles to Van Petten Road. Turn west. The home is just before reaching the railroad tracks.
