MOUNT MORRIS – Ogle County Sheriff’s Department is looking for witnesses to the crash in which an 18-year-old died when his vehicle hit a utility pole in the 1000 block of Oregon Trail Road around 2:25 a.m. Wednesday.

Marc A. Cothard Jr., of Mount Morris, had just begun working at Rayovac in Dixon and apparently was on his way home from work when his vehicle went off the right side of the road on a curve west of Oregon and struck the pole.

As is standard practice, an autopsy and toxicology tests are being done, a sheriff’s department spokesman said Thursday.

Those with information can call the department at 815-732-6666 or find it on Facebook.

Cothard, formerly of Oregon, was a 2012 Oregon High School graduate and was active in the school’s musical performances and Honors Choir. He was attending Sauk Valley Community College, according to his obituary.

He is survived by his mother, Krissi Brockman of Mount Morris. His visitation will be at 6:30 p.m. and his funeral at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oregon Church of God.
