BELVIDERE – Margaret “Connie” Kopp, 89, of Belvidere, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Northwoods Care Centre in Belvidere.
She was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Dixon, the daughter of John and Mary (Brechon) Conroy. She graduated from St. Mary High School and from St. Anthony School of Nursing in Rockford. She married Morton Frank Kopp on June 27, 1950, in Milwaukee.
A Belvidere resident since 1945, Connie was a registered nurse. She worked at Highland Hospital, the Polio Foundation, St. Joseph Hospital, the Chrysler plant in Belvidere, Dr. Kaske’s, and Dr. Gerald Peterson’s offices. Connie and her husband also owned and operated Kopp’s Bakery in Belvidere for many years.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere. She was an avid golfer, and a member of Bel-Mar Country Club in Belvidere, where she was Senior Ladies Club Champion one year. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Boone Post 77, John Hugo Kaiser Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1461 Auxiliary, and Ladies of the Moose Chapter 1052.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, LeRoy Long, Mary (Long) Williams, Gerald Long, John Conroy, Patricia (Conroy) Eckhart, Douglas Conroy, Joseph Conroy, Stephen Conroy, Mary Beth (Conroy) Wulf, Mary Joanne (Hickey) Bowes, Kakie (Conroy) Lovaas, Jane (Conroy) Toole, Margaret (Conroy) Hanson, Edward Conroy, and Rita Ann (Conroy) Nolan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Frank Kopp, brothers, John and Edward Conroy; sisters, Catherine (Conroy) Hickey and Marie (Conroy) Long; and nephew, John Long.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Belvidere Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, with the Rev. Brian A. Geary, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Highland Garden of Memories in Belvidere.
A memorial fund has been established to Poor Clares Monastery.
