Summer’s here; make it count

The busy summer of 2013 has arrived. With a little advance planning, people can get the most out of area festivals, fairs, and attractions. SVM stands ready to assist.

The calendar says today is the first day of summer.

The weatherman agrees, with high temperatures at least in the upper 80s predicted for summer’s first weekend.

Warm-weather events and activities are getting heated up as well.

If you like theater, “Romeo and Juliet” will be staged at the Woodlawn Arts Academy in Sterling at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

If you like spirits, The Dixon Beer and Wine Festival is slated from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday along the riverfront.

If you like history, “WWII Recreated,” an authentic World War II reenactment camp, takes place Friday through Sunday at Elks Page Park.

If you like small-town festivals, Tampico Homecoming Days beckons this weekend.

Additional busy weekends are ahead for the summer of 2013.

All it takes is a little advance planning to get the most out of area festivals, fairs, and attractions.

Sauk Valley Media stands ready to assist.

Every Monday, readers of “The Week Ahead” learn about upcoming activities.

Every Thursday, readers of Plan-It! Sauk Valley find out more details on a wide spectrum of places to go, people to see, and things to do.

Every Friday, readers of Your Weekend Top 5 get one last reminder of the best weekend activities in store.

Of course, people who want to plan further ahead may consult Sauk Valley Media’s Voyager magazine. It is a 124-page guide to activities across Northern Illinois and Eastern Iowa. Limited copies remain, and they are free. Stop by our offices in Dixon and Sterling and ask for one, or call with your name and mailing address, and a copy will be sent to you.

Summer is here. Make it count.
