Scholars earn honors at June 10 meetings

DIXON – ARC of Lee County awarded four $1,000 scholarships to young women.

Ursula Alexander, Kristin Lawrence, Karen Sanders, and Vivian Villegas, all of Lee County, received their awards June 10 at the ARC annual meeting at Kreider Services.

Alexander of Dixon is a sophomore at Sauk Valley Community College. In the fall, she will transfer to Northern Illinois University. Her goal is to become a doctor.

Lawrence, also of Dixon, will enter her second year of a master’s program at the University of Illinois in early childhood in special education studies. She plans to become a developmental therapist for early intervention programs. She is a Newman Central Catholic High School in Sterling and St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, graduate.

Sanders is a Dixon High School graduate. She will begin studies in the fall at an Illinois university to become a licensed clinical social worker.

Villegas, a Dixon High School graduate, plans to attend the University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana in the fall to become an occupational therapist after graduate school.
