DIXON – Lydia J. McGinnis, 78, of Dixon, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. 

She was born May 23, 1935, in Woodstock, the daughter of Norman and Anna (Collen) Baker. She was a graduate of Genoa-Kingston High School, class of 1953. Lydia married Leo McGinnis on Aug. 14, 1954, in Genoa. After spending a few years in New London, Conn., where Leo was stationed during his Navy tour, they made their home in Oregon, where they lived until 1971. After that, they made their home on South Hennepin Avenue in Dixon. She had worked as a deputy clerk for the Lee County Clerk’s Office for 20 years before retiring. Lydia was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, where she served as a choir member. She also volunteered with KSB Hospital Auxiliary. Lydia enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, crocheting, and traveling.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Monica (Carl) Maronich of Richland Center, Wis., and Mary Beth (Tom) Adam of Harper, Iowa;  six grandchildren, Alison and Andrew Maronich, and Eric, Ryan, Emily, and Megan Adam; one brother, Michael (Jeanne) Baker of Rhinelander, Wis.; special friends, Julie and Abigayle Ammon; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Patricia Hendee and Norma Moore; and a brother-in-law, Jim Hendee.

Visitation will be from  6 to 8 p.m., with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. A prayer service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Bernard Sehr officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.

Memorials have been established to St. Mary School and KSB Auxiliary in Dixon.
